SOAP Note Macros - Default Options
Updated over a month ago

Overview

This guide explains how to set up default selections for SOAP note macros. This feature allows you to automatically pre-select options within a macro, speeding up the creation of SOAP notes by reducing the need for manual input. You can always edit the pre-selected answers if needed.

Prerequisites

  • You must be using custom macros at the system level or location level.

  • If you're using a managed macro set, you will need to switch to a custom macro set to make edits.

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Default Selections

1. Access SOAP Macros

  1. From your system level dashboard, navigate to System Settings > SOAP Macros.

  2. Ensure that you’re using a custom macro set to enable editing.

    1. If you are using location specific macros, then you would navigate to your live location > Settings > Initial Setup > SOAP Macros

2. Select the Macro to Edit

  1. Choose the macro you want to set up with default selections.

  2. You can only set up default options for an advanced macro. Advanced macros are required to use this feature.

3. Setting Default Options for Select Macros

  1. If your advanced macro is a select advanced macro (where only one choice can be selected), you can set a single default option. If your advanced macro is a Multi-select advanced macro (where more than one choice can be selected), you can select multiple options as your default options.

  2. Choose the default option you want to be automatically pre-selected.

  3. Click Save.

Example Scenario: If you frequently use a specific technique for a procedure, you can set that technique as the default option. This will save time during SOAP note creation.

4. Configuring Behavior Settings

You have two options for configuring behavior settings:

  1. Set Default and Move to Next Macro: Automatically selects the default and proceeds to the next macro without displaying the question.

  2. Set Default but Wait for Confirmation: Displays the pre-selected default on your screen, allowing you to confirm or change it before moving on.

Demonstrating the Behavior on a SOAP Note Screen

  1. Open a patient's SOAP Note screen.

  2. Click on the macro you have configured with defaults.

  3. If the behavior is Set Default and Move to Next Macro, the system will automatically select the defaults and proceed.

  4. If the behavior is Set Default but Wait for Confirmation, the pre-selected options will appear, and you can confirm or change them.

Benefits of Default Options

Setting up default options in your macros helps to streamline the SOAP note creation process. This feature is useful for automatically populating answers you commonly select, saving time. Because these are advanced macros (marked by a blue box), you can always go back and modify them if the answers vary from your standard defaults.
