Use System Macros - Toggle

Set your location to default to system-level SOAP macros, with the option to switch to location-specific macros at any time.

📝 Overview

The Use System Macros setting controls whether your location uses system-level SOAP macros. When you turn it on, your location uses the macros set up at the system level, which are shared across locations.

You can always switch to location-specific macros from the SOAP Macros page, whether this setting is on or off. Most single-location practices should stay on system macros. Location-specific macros are designed for networks with multiple locations that want different macros at each one.

🧭 How to Turn It On or Off

  1. Go to your Live Location.

  2. Click Settings > Office > Office Configuration.

  3. Find Use System Macros and toggle it On or Off.

🔀 How to Switch Between System and Location-Specific Macros

You can switch from the macros page itself at any time:

  1. Go to Settings > Initial Setup > SOAP Macros.

  2. Follow the prompt to switch to location-specific macros, or use the green button to reconnect to system macros.

For the full steps, including how to copy system macros into your location, see Location-Specific SOAP Macros.

⚙️ On vs. Off

✅ On

  • However you turn it on, your location switches to system macros.

  • System macros are shared with every location that uses them.

  • You can still switch to location-specific macros afterward from the SOAP Macros page.

  • [VERIFY: whether existing location-specific macros are kept when this is turned on.]

🚫 Off

  • Turning it off doesn’t switch your location to location-specific macros.

  • Your location keeps using whichever macro set you last selected on the SOAP Macros page.

  • If you’ve never switched, that’s system macros.

  • You can still switch to location-specific macros from the SOAP Macros page.

📍 System Macros vs. Location-Specific Macros

System macros

  • Created at the system level and shared across locations.

  • Best for single-location practices and networks that want the same macros everywhere.

Location-specific macros

  • Created for one location, so you can customize them without affecting others.

  • Best for multi-location networks that need different macros at each location.

⚠️ Before You Switch to Location-Specific Macros

If you switch and haven’t set up location-specific macros, your SOAP note screen may show the macros label with no macros listed. The system macros still exist, but your location isn’t using them.

To avoid this, copy your system macros to your location when you switch. The Copy Macros from System option is covered in Location-Specific SOAP Macros.

🔧 If Your Macros Disappear

  1. Go to Settings > Initial Setup > SOAP Macros.

  2. Click the green button to reconnect your location to the system macros.

  3. Refresh the screen.

Your macros should reappear on the SOAP note screen.

✅ Key Takeaways

  • Turning Use System Macros on switches your location to system macros.

  • Turning it off doesn’t change your macros. Your location keeps the set you last selected on the SOAP Macros page.

  • You can switch to location-specific macros at any time from Settings > Initial Setup > SOAP Macros.

  • Copy your macros when you switch, or your macro list may appear empty.

📌 Conclusion

Turn Use System Macros on if you want your location to use the shared system macros. Leave it off if you’ve chosen your macro set on the SOAP Macros page and want to keep it. If you switch to location-specific macros, copy your system macros over first so your SOAP note screen isn’t empty.
