This guide explains how billed units are used within ChiroHD, how they relate to services, and how you can configure and edit them during service setup and charge posting.
What Are Billed Units?
Definition: A billed unit in ChiroHD represents 15 minutes of service.
Example:
1 billed unit = 15 minutes
4 billed units = 1 hour (e.g., a 1-hour massage equals 4 billed units)
Important: If your service duration exceeds 15 minutes, you must assign additional units when setting up or posting the service.
Setting Up Billed Units During Service Creation
Navigate to:
System → Settings → Services.When adding a service:
Specify the number of billed units under the service setup.
Example: For a 1-hour massage service, set Billed Units = 4.
If you forgot to set it initially:
You can edit the service later and update the billed units.
Adjusting Billed Units When Posting a Charge
You can modify billed units when manually adding charges or when working from the doctor's SOAP Note screen.
If Adding Charges Manually:
Open the Transaction Modal by:
Clicking on the patient's snapshot → Transactions → New Transaction.
Select the service.
Update the "Units" field if the service duration differs from the default setup.
If Adding Charges via SOAP Note Screen:
Select the patient from the adjustment queue.
Click into the Charges section within the SOAP Note.
Adjust the "Units" field as needed for the service.
Setting Up Default Units for a Specific Patient
If a patient routinely receives a service with more billed units than the system default:
You can configure default charges and units specifically for that patient.
This ensures that the correct number of units auto-populates each time charges are added or SOAP Notes are posted.
Quick Summary
Action | Where to Update Billed Units |
During service setup | System → Settings → Services |
When manually posting charges | Transaction Modal |
During SOAP Note charge posting | SOAP Note screen |
For patient-specific defaults | Default Charges setup |
By correctly setting and adjusting billed units, you ensure that service durations are accurately reflected, which is critical for proper billing, especially when insurance claims are involved.
