Macro chaining in ChiroHD allows you to link multiple SOAP macros into a single, streamlined workflow. Instead of clicking through individual buttons for each section (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan), macro chaining creates a customized SOAP note flow that opens each section in sequence.
Purpose
This feature improves efficiency by allowing providers to complete their SOAP notes faster, with fewer clicks and more consistent documentation across visits.
How to Access and Configure Macro Chaining
Step 1: Navigate to the Macro Builder
Go to the System Dashboard.
Click System Settings.
Select SOAP Macros.
Step 2: Create a New Chained Macro
Click Add Macro and name it appropriately (e.g., “Daily SOAP Workflow”).
Optionally, provide a description to indicate this is a chained macro.
Step 3: Add Linked Macros
For each step in the SOAP workflow (Subjective, Objective, etc.):
Click Add Advanced Macro.
Choose Macro Type: Other Macro.
Use the dropdown to select the existing macro you want to chain.
Repeat this for each macro you want to include (e.g., Subjective → Objective → Assessment → Plan).
You may chain as many macros as needed in any order that fits your office workflow.
Example Configuration
Chained Macro Name: "Test SOAP Chain"
Linked Macros:
Subjective 2
Objective
Assessment
Plan
Each macro will automatically launch in sequence when the main chained macro is selected.
Using a Chained Macro
Once saved:
Open a patient’s SOAP Note.
Click the chained macro (e.g., "Test SOAP Chain").
The system will walk you through each linked macro, one after the other.
Note: You’ll still interact with each macro’s input fields. The chaining simply removes the need to manually click each macro button.
Benefits
Time-Saving: Complete all SOAP note sections in one continuous workflow.
Consistency: Ensures the same sections are used for each visit.
Customization: Tailor macro chains to fit specific treatment types, visit lengths, or provider styles.
Best Practices
Build and test your macro chain using test patients to ensure proper sequencing.
Use descriptive macro names to avoid confusion when selecting from the dropdown.
Combine macro chaining with other macro types (e.g., select, narrative, number range) for maximum flexibility.
Summary
Macro chaining allows ChiroHD users to combine multiple SOAP macros into a single streamlined workflow, helping save time, reduce errors, and improve clinical consistency.
Quick Recap:
