Tips - All Reports Beta

Learn how the Tips Report in All Reports Beta works, what it tracks, how tips are recorded in ChiroHD, and what the report does and does not show.

๐Ÿ“ Overview

The Tips Report shows all tips collected by your office within a selected date range. Tips in ChiroHD are recorded using the dedicated tip button in the transaction modal โ€” this is the only way a tip is recognized and tracked as a tip in the system. The report is designed to help offices see how much has been collected in tips and, in the Detail view, see that breakdown by provider.

To access the Tips Report, go to Reporting > All Reports Beta, select a location, and click Tips Report under Daily Reports.

๐Ÿ’ก How Tips Work in ChiroHD

Tips must be recorded using the tip button in the transaction modal at the time of payment collection. This is what identifies the amount as a tip in ChiroHD and makes it appear on the Tips Report.

โš ๏ธ Important: If your office has historically recorded tips by creating a service called "TIP" or something similar and adding it to the ledger as a charge, those amounts will not appear on the Tips Report. They would appear on the Sales Report as a billed service instead, because ChiroHD has no way to distinguish a service named "TIP" from any other inventory or service item. Only amounts collected through the dedicated tip button are tracked as tips.

If your office has used a workaround method in the past and is transitioning to the tip button, the Tips Report will only reflect tips from the point the tip button began being used โ€” it will not capture any historical tip amounts recorded as services.

๐Ÿ“„ Summary vs. Detail

Summary

  • Shows the total amount collected in tips for the selected date range

  • โš ๏ธ Note: The Summary view does not show an overall grand total on the report itself โ€” you will see category or grouping totals but not a single combined number. If you need a total, run the report as a CSV and sum the values in a spreadsheet.

Detail (PHI โ€” requires appropriate access)

  • Breaks down tips by provider โ€” showing how much each provider received in tips for the date range

  • Best for offices that need to track tip distribution per staff member or provider

โš ๏ธ What the Tips Report Does Not Show

  • Tips recorded as services: Any tip amounts historically entered as a service or inventory item (e.g., a line item called "TIP" on the ledger) will not appear here. Those will show on the Sales Report under whatever name the service was given.

  • A grand total in the Summary view: The Summary does not display a single combined total. Use the CSV export and sum the values manually if a grand total is needed.

  • Payment method breakdown: The report shows tip amounts but does not break down how the tip was paid (cash, card, etc.).

โ“ Common Questions

  • Why don't I see any tips on the report even though we collect them? The most likely reason is that tips are being recorded as a service or inventory item rather than through the tip button in the transaction modal. Only tips collected using the dedicated tip button appear on this report. Check how your office is currently recording tips and confirm the tip button is being used at the time of payment.

  • Can I see tips broken down by provider? Yes โ€” run the Detail view. It breaks down tip amounts by provider for the selected date range.

  • Why is there no grand total on the Summary? The Summary view does not display a single combined total. Export the report as a CSV and sum the tip column in a spreadsheet to get an overall total.

  • If we switch from using a "TIP" service to the tip button, will old tips show up? No. The Tips Report only shows amounts collected through the tip button. Tips previously recorded as services will remain on the Sales Report under that service name and will not be retroactively converted to tip records.

โœ… Key Takeaways

  • The Tips Report only captures tips collected using the dedicated tip button in the transaction modal โ€” tips recorded as services or inventory items do not appear here.

  • The Summary view does not show a grand total โ€” export as a CSV and sum manually if a combined total is needed.

  • The Detail view breaks down tips by provider and requires appropriate PHI access.

  • Only Start Date and End Date are available as filters.

  • If your office is transitioning from a "TIP as a service" workaround to the tip button, the report will only reflect tips from the point the tip button began being used.

๐Ÿ“Œ Conclusion

The Tips Report is a straightforward report with one important prerequisite: tips must be recorded through the tip button in the transaction modal to appear here at all. Offices that have historically used a service or inventory item workaround will not see those amounts on this report. Once the tip button is in consistent use, the Summary provides a quick total for the date range and the Detail view gives a provider-level breakdown for payroll or distribution purposes.
