Enable the Referral Type Required feature in ChiroHD to ensure each new patient appointment is linked to a referral source. This helps your team collect essential marketing data, track referral performance, and improve report accuracy.
Accessing the Referral Type Required Settings
To find this features settings, navigate to your System Dashboard, System Settings, System Configuration.
If toggled on, this will prevent a new patient appointment from being scheduled unless a referral source is selected.
If toggle is off, no referral source will need to be selected for a new patient to schedule an appointment.
Setting Up Referral Sources System vs Location
Prior to turning this feature on, ensure that your referral sources are defined at the system level so they are available for selection.
Referral Sources: System Wide
You can find referral sources by navigating to your System Dashboard, System Settings, Referral Sources to add or edit system-wide referral sources.
Referral Sources: Location Specific (Optional)
You can find referral sources by navigating to your Live Location, Settings, Initial Setup, Referral Sources.
Reminder: There is another setting in System Configuration that if Org Controls Referrals is off, locations may not be able to add their own referral sources. Please see our other resources if you have further questions on this topic.
Scheduling a New Patient Appointment with Referral Type Required Toggled On
On the calendar, click a time slot and select New to add a patient.
The Referral Source field will now be mandatory, highlighted by a blue bar. The appointment cannot be scheduled unless a referral source is selected.
Reporting on Referral Sources
You can find reporting on Referral Sources by navigating to your Live Location, Reporting, Simple Reporting, Statistics.
Set your desired date range and review the Market Analysis section to see performance and income by referral source.
