Sales - Simple Reporting

Learn how the Sales Summary works under Simple Reporting, what each section shows, and how it compares to the Sales Report in All Reports Beta.

📝 Overview

The Sales Summary in Simple Reporting breaks down everything charged on patient ledgers within a selected date range — services, inventory items, and taxes — with a CPT-level line-item view and a grand total. It is part of ChiroHD's legacy Simple Reporting tool, found separately from All Reports Beta.

To access this report, go to Reporting > Simple Reporting, then select the Sales tab. The only filter is the date range. Export is available as PDF in both Summary and Detail formats, using the two print buttons on the report.

📊 What the Report Shows

The report is organized into sections, in this order:

  1. Services

  2. Inventory - Supplements

  3. Inventory - DME

  4. Inventory - Other

  5. Taxes

  6. Total — a single grand total row combining all sections above

Each line item within a section shows:

Column

What It Represents

CPT

The CPT code for the service or item (shows "---" if none applies)

Name

The service or inventory item name

Qty

Number of times that item was charged in the date range

Patient

Patient-responsible portion of the charge

Write Off

Amount written off against the charge

Ins. / PI

Insurance or personal injury-responsible portion

Tax

Combined tax applied (the report sums up to four separate tax fields per item)

Total

The full charge amount for that line

⚠️ Unlike the Sales Report in All Reports Beta, this version does include write-offs. The Write Off column here shows inline write-offs applied to each charge — a detail the All Reports Beta Sales Report does not surface. This makes the Simple Reporting Sales Summary useful specifically when you need write-off visibility without running a separate report.

💡 How This Compares to the Sales Report in All Reports Beta

Simple Reporting: Sales Summary

All Reports Beta: Sales Report

Filters

Date range only

Date range, Patient Case Type

Shows write-offs

Yes — Write Off column per line item

No

Shows tax

Yes — combined into the line item total

No (tracked separately in Tax Information)

Breaks down by inventory sub-category

Yes — Supplements, DME, Other shown separately

No — single combined view

Export formats

PDF only (Summary and Detail)

PDF and CSV

When to use which: If you need write-off and tax visibility built into one report without combining multiple reports, this Simple Reporting version covers more ground in a single view. If you need CSV export or prefer the more current reporting interface, use the Sales Report in All Reports Beta and pair it with the Write-Offs Report and Tax Information Report as needed.

❓ Common Questions

  • Why does this report show write-offs when the All Reports Beta Sales Report does not? The two reports were built on different reporting infrastructure. This Simple Reporting version includes a dedicated Write Off column per line item, while the All Reports Beta Sales Report shows only the default billed amount. If you need write-off visibility, this report or the dedicated Write-Offs Report are your options.

  • Why is the inventory broken into three separate categories instead of one? The report separates inventory into Supplements, DME, and Other as distinct sections rather than grouping all inventory together. This gives a more specific breakdown of what type of product was sold without needing to filter separately.

  • Can I export this as a CSV? No — PDF is the only export format available, with separate buttons for Summary and Detail.

  • Why is there a "---" in the CPT column for some line items? That indicates the item does not have a CPT code associated with it — common for certain inventory items or adjustment types that aren't billed using a CPT code.

✅ Key Takeaways

  • The Sales Summary shows services, inventory (split into Supplements, DME, Other), and taxes — with write-offs included per line item, which the All Reports Beta Sales Report does not show.

  • The only filter is date range; export is PDF only, with separate Summary and Detail options.

  • Use this report when you want write-off and tax detail in a single view; use the All Reports Beta Sales Report with CSV export when you need more flexible filtering or data manipulation.

📌 Conclusion

The Sales Summary under Simple Reporting offers a more complete single-report view than its All Reports Beta counterpart — folding in write-offs and tax detail that otherwise require separate reports. Its tradeoff is fewer filters and PDF-only export. Choose this report when write-off visibility matters most for a quick read; choose the All Reports Beta version when you need CSV export or plan to filter by case type.
